Medical detox is withdrawal managed by a clinical team, so your person is monitored and treated instead of riding it out alone. At Broadview, detox happens on-site in Lemon Grove with 24/7 nursing, daily rounds from Dr. Deyhimy, and medication to control symptoms.
We are intentionally small, with twelve beds in total, which means the team knows every detox client by name. Vitals are checked frequently. Medications are adjusted in real time. And the experience is calmer than what most people fear.
What your detox includes

Care is led by Dr. David Deyhimy, MD, board-certified in addiction medicine and internal medicine. Withdrawal protocols are set by the physician and adjusted to each patient rather than run on a standard schedule.
Some withdrawals need closer monitoring than others, including polysubstance use and long-term benzodiazepine use. Our physician assesses every case before admission and refers out when someone needs hospital-level care.
When detox is complete, residential treatment continues in the same building with the same team. No transfer, and no starting introductions over.

Withdrawal varies with the substance, how long it has been used, and your person’s medical history. Common symptoms include anxiety, disturbed sleep, stomach upset, sweating, tremor, and raised vital signs. Withdrawal from alcohol and benzodiazepines in particular can be medically dangerous without supervision.
Our team manages symptoms with medication matched to the situation, comfort measures such as hydration and nutrition, and clinical attention as often as it is needed.
Most people move directly into our residential program, where care continues in the same building with the same team. Medication-assisted treatment continues on-site when the physician indicates it.

Length depends on the substance, how long it has been used, and your medical history. Your physician gives you a personalized estimate after intake and reviews progress daily.
Most people do, because the same team continues care in the same building. It is not required. Either way, we plan the next step with you and schedule it before discharge.
Family involvement starts at admission. With your person’s consent, we provide regular updates, and family sessions are scheduled based on clinical readiness.
Withdrawal is uncomfortable. Our team manages symptoms with medication, frequent nursing checks, and a low-stimulation setting, and the physician adjusts the plan daily based on how your person responds.
